Artists have different income, government should interfere to bring equality?

Some modern artists receive huge sums of money for the things they create, while others struggle to survive. Governments should take steps to resolve this unfair situation. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Essay Outline

Disagree.

  • The value of works of art depends on the natural demand people. The price of a lacquer painting or a calligraphy depends on how many people want to possess it, obvious examples are auctions for art products. When it comes to personal tastes, there should not be any external interference or force.
  • Successful artists work hard for their fame, so they deserve financial rewards. Start from scratch, right investment of time and effort, persistent devotion to the career, create some collection, exhibited to promote their names. May fail, go through stress, degrade their own health looking for inspiration by using drugs à achievement is hard earned, so once famous, there should be remuneration/ compensation.

The model essay

It is undeniable that the world is a more humane and civilized place to live thanks to the arts. In any fields one can name, there are stratifications of art works which lead to seemingly unfair distribution of wealth to some famous modern artists while others seems to be left in disgrace (bị ruồng bỏ) and even in poverty. However, in my opinion, even then, the value of an art work should be decided by its admirers, not the government for many reasons.

It is obvious that the value of a work of art depends on how much people want to possess it. When demand is greater than supply, the price of the item for sale must increase as a natural rule. For example, a lacquer painting or a calligraphy may be priced according to how competitive the auction for it is. For masterpieces, there are auctions to sell them and normally the price appearing in the press will surprise people everywhere. Such events attract attention of numerous traders and collectors from around the world, and thus make the item more sought after (săn lùng) and valuable. This phenomenon should be free from control of the government because when it comes to personal tastes, (thị hiếu cá nhân) there should not be any external interference or force.

In addition, successful artists work hard using their talent, so they deserve financial rewards. Most of them start from scratch, being learners and apprentices before becoming a star in the arts. Moreover, they need to be not only talented but also wise in making right investment of time and effort to climb up the career ladder. (nấc thang sự nghiệp) Their persistent devotion (cống hiến liên tục) to the career is inevitable in order to create some exhibited collections to build personal brands for themselves. Their ways to success may also be full of failure and hardship which suppress them with stress or degrade their health in the search for inspiration from detrimental sources like alcohol and drugs. Artists’ achievement is hard earned, (khó nhọc mới kiếm được) so once they are famous, they should enjoy at least financial rewards.

In conclusion, if there is any intervention of the government to equalize famous and unknown artists to any extent, it may be unfair to put people who are talented and hard-working in the same league (cùng đẳng cấp với) as those who are not. (374 words)
