ĐỀ WRITING NGÀY 19/10/2019

Task 1:

The bar chart shows the percentage of total world production in Asia, Europe and the rest of the world between 1840 and 2000.

The bar chart illustrates how much Asia, Europe, and the remaining countries contributed to the world production from 1840 to 2000.

As is shown in the graph, production from Asia accounted for the highest proportion of the world production in 1840, at over 50%; however, in 1880 this figure dropped to a trough of less than 30%, which was the smallest percentage among three regions in that year. After that Asia maintained the most modest contribution to the world production but with a slow recovery to just over 30% in 1960. Remarkably, in 2000, Asia became the top manufacturer of the world again with over 45% of the global total output.

As for Europe, its proportions of the world production were quite stable, starting with the second highest number of around 38% in 1840, it then rose marginally to make the continent become the main producer of the world in 1880 with just below 40%. The number then dropped gradually to 30% in 2000.

Bottoming the list in 1840 was production from the rest of the world, at only 10%; however, this number shot up to the second ranking at around 33% in 1880 and 1920. Then a fluctuation showed that these countries created the most for the world production in 1960 at over 35%, but that reigning was short-lived (việc thống lĩnh đó sớm qua đi) because in 2000, the proportion fell to the bottom of the world at around 24%.

Overall, Asia contributed the most to the world production, and together with Europe, it created the majority of products in the globe throughout the period. (260 words)

Task 2:

Many people are now spending more and more time travelling to work or school. Some people believe that this is a negative development while others think there are some benefits. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Version 1:

Commuting (đi xe đến cơ quan/trường học) to work and school is now more time consuming. Some people think that this phenomenon has its merits while others lean more on the downside of it. This essay will bring forth the reasons for both claims.

People may consider long trips to work or school as an opportunity to enjoy themselves. Many struggle to find time to care for themselves amidst plenty of duties for family and work, so time on a public means of transport is valuable for them to pursue their interest of reading, movie watching or music listening. Besides, sitting on a train or a bus, watching the scenes passing by can give people moments of freedom to self-reflect and contemplate (suy nghĩ về) solutions to any problems. For some, these longer trips can also mean time for a quick nap before working or a short rest to re-energize after work.

However spending much time travelling to work and school every day very negatively affects people’s lives. If people have to drive their cars, it definitely wears people out physically and mentally because the driving task undoubtedly requires alertness and high concentration, especially on highways where only a small mistake can lead to a traffic pile-up. (tai nạn xe hơi liên hoàn trên cao tốc). Also, longer driving time per day combined will amount to some working weeks or even months per year, which makes travelling to work or school the main task although it is not worthy or productive. Distant commuting also jacks up (làm tăng) transportation costs, which adds weight into financial burdens of numerous families.

In conclusion, it may look good on the surface that long trips to school and work are useful for people to somehow enjoy their lives with time on public transport. However, I believe that when the longer travelling time leads to a plethora of consequences like tiredness, accidents, waste of time, and financial loss, many will think more about moving their houses or changing schools or jobs for the sake of (vì lợi ích của) shorter drives.

People may find the sunny side of long trips to work or school as a result of improved population distribution (phân bổ dân số) and better living environment. First, when more people live on the outskirts or in the countryside, although they usually have to drive a longer way to their companies or schools in the city, they can help ease the demand of a huge population in downtown areas. Second, by living away from the city center, they can create demand for boosting the development of services of all kinds in areas surrounding cities. Third, when living in the countryside, these commuters and their families can benefit from the fresh air, and the peaceful environment away from the hustle and bustle of (ồn ào náo nhiệt) urban areas.
