WRITING QUESTION FOR IELTS COMUPUTER TEST ON DEC 26 2019

Many people believe that individual can do nothing to improve the environment. Only governments and big companies can make a difference. Do you agree or disagree with the statement?

For many people, environmental protection is solely the responsibility of governments and corporations, not of individuals. However, I believe that this huge task requires the cooperation of all forces in society. (tất cả lực lượng của xã hội)

Individuals can be considered as the smallest units of society where environmental actions start. Indeed, when living in the natural world, each person has a variety of needs every day to fulfil, and many of them directly affect the environment. For instance, a reduction in the use of plastic bags by a shopper, or an action of turning off unnecessary lights seems insignificant on the surface but really makes great differences (tạo nên sự khác biệt lớn) in protecting the environment. In particular, cutting down on the number of plastic bags means saving the environment from the excessive plastic waste which leads to the contamination of oceans by micro-plastic. Meanwhile, using electricity sparingly (dùng điện tiết kiệm) helps limit the emission of greenhouse gases in thermal energy generation and slows down the depletion of natural resources (sự cạn kiệt tài nguyên thiên nhiên) like coal and natural gas. Therefore, thousands and millions of actions of each person during his or her life can entail (kéo theo) a huge sum of impacts on the environment.

However, there also need to be the interference of governments and colossal organizations in the fight against environmental pollution. Governments are expected to create a legal frame to ensure people do not dare to trade their clean environment for (đánh đổi môi trường sạch vì…) their economic achievements. Laws on forest protection, proper treatment of industrial waste, limited use of agricultural chemical, heavy taxes on products harmful for the environment and the like (và những cái tương tự) are essential to keep the society on track in sustainable development. Also, the participation of countries in international treaties of carbon neutrality (hiệp ước cắt giảm khí thải) also engender laws that require more responsibility from the corporate world to curb air pollution. As for huge companies with numerous manufacturing activities, they need to have their waste treated reasonably before discharge. If this is ensured, there will be at least no water and soil pollution in industrial zones and their neighbouring residential areas.

In conclusion, no matter how much (bất kể nhiều đến mức nào) people or organizations can contribute in the improvement of the environment, joint efforts (nỗ lực chung) of the whole society are essential to ensure that the contribution of one party is not ruined but resonated by (không bị phá hủy nhưng được công hưởng bởi) that of others.
