Diagram description 4 – The water cycle

The diagram gives information about the water cycle in the nature. Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features.

The diagram illustrates how water transforms in nature.

At first, under the heat of the sun, water is evaporated from many sources from the land and at sea. However, it is noticeable that oceans are primary contributors of vapor making up 80% of the humidity in the air. Water vapor rises up into the high altitude where it gathers in the condensation to form clouds. The clouds then drift inland where water droplets get heavier and form raindrops to fall down. In the warmer climate, it rains, but in the colder area, especially up in high mountain summits, water in the air is transformed into snow before reaching the ground.

On the ground, some water will stay in lakes, while some will penetrate into the soil and form a body of groundwater. Another part of the water in nature is surface runoff which forms springs and rivers. The rivers together with groundwater flow from a high to a low place and feed the water back into oceans. At estuaries, there is usually an intrusion of salt water into the inland fresh water to form areas of brackish water. However, the water finally reaches the sea and the cycle starts again.

Overall, the water cycle is a seemingly eternal process enabled by the changes in temperature on Earth in different altitudes and geographical locations. (226 words)
